Historic Downtown Urbana
Urbana’s downtown Monument Square shopping district is in the National Register of Historic Places. The oldest downtown building, constructed in 1811, served as military headquarters during the War of 1812 and today houses Carmazzi’s Delicatessen and Candy Store, a classic general store and family-owned business since 1893. The downtown features a diverse selection of boutiques, antique stores, art galleries, locally-owned restaurants and a farmers’ market—plus several special celebrations, including Art Affair on the Square, a juried event that attracts artists from across the state on the third Saturday of July. |
